Mina Guli founded her charity, Thirst, in 2012 with the aim of raising awareness about the world’s deepening water crisis. By 2030, there will be a 40 per cent difference between the demand for water and the supply of water available on our planet. This is already leading to severe agricultural dislocation, and forcing people to leave their homes in search of H20. To get the message across, Mina decided to run 40 marathons across seven deserts, on seven continents in seven weeks.
My friend, colleague, and superb speech writer Marc Stoiber just sent me this recent video, from the Young Presidents Organization world congress in Dubai, featuring Mina describing her epic undertaking, why she did it, and what she has learned from her on-the-ground experiences and encounters. Marc, who helped craft Mina’s moving presentation, has urged us to share its important message, which we’re delighted to do.
As an aside, this is the sort of forum we hope to begin hosting soon here in Kaslo and the West Kootenay generally.
