A lawyer in Lethbridge, Alberta for 29 years, Rhonda Ruston focused on family law and civil litigation. As a committed advocate of livelong learning, Ruston taught law at the University of Lethbridge, was a school trustee for the Lethbridge Public School District, and sat on both the Board of Governors of the Lethbridge community College and the Advisory Committee for the Dean of Fine Arts at University of Lethbridge.
Ruston has devoted countless hours over the years to community volunteerism, assisting organizations ranging from women’s shelters to humane societies, from suicide prevention to legal assistance, and working with numerous community organizations such as the YWCA and the United Way.
In addition to being a passionate supporter of the arts, Rhonda Ruston is a talented singer. She has appeared in productions of musicals such as Evita (she played the lead character, Eva Peron), and Man of La Mancha (where she appeared as Aldonza). She is the lead female vocalist in the Kaslo-based roots band, The Lichens.
A frequent visitor to the West Kootenays since 1999, Ruston moved permanently to the Upper Kootenay Lake area in 2008. Since then she has chaired the Regional District’s Advisory Planning Commission (focusing on land use questions), is currently the Chair of Lardeau Valley LINKS, and is a Board member of the Kaslo InfoNet Society.
